Not sufficient experience or time for a meaningful estimation of reliability for customers. Corporate probably won’t speak of it.

I have had a very positive experience in my 340i. The B58 motor in modern 40i models has potential to be one of the best and most reliable BMW engines ever. If you follow savagegeese on youtube, Jack can't stop raving about it in all their BMW reviews. Even in the latest video on the CT4 Blackwing, they mention the B58 twice: 40 sec and 10:40 sec:

As an N55 Owner, I must admit that I suffer a bit from B58 envy!

Great Video! My favorite line: "and if you want to drive it like a total monkey, then you can turn everything off"... :)

Don't mind, him, that's his response of he doesn't know. Anyways...

I'm stepping from a n55 platform and from what I can tell, the b58 is in its...3rd iteration change? I THINK ive read that bmw updated SOME of the polymers and manufacturing techniques that are exposed to the heat, and the engine retains thermal consistency much better than the n series did to help quell the hot/cold brittle plastic issues which plagued the n series. I also think they went BACK to a mechanical water pump, AND the revised oil housing location is a vastly better design away from the crank pulleys that caused a lot of eaten belts that slipped off.

That's what I've heard or read. Choose to believe me or do your own research, but those sound like good improvements to me!

Ok thanks. In retrospect it would have made more sense for me to just ask about the reliability of the engine used in the 335i and 435i. Thank you for your response, but I was mainly asking about those engines.
