Hey Everybody,

I know there's a million of these threads but I don't see anything exactly the same as this (maybe I'm just completely missing it). I have a 2004 530i. The past month or so it has been cranking a little longer than normal in the morning. Now it happens more often and the engine doesn't roar to life but kind of sputters for a second. Sometimes there's a normal crank and it just sputters a little. If I turn it off and immediately turn it on again it seems to have no issues at all. I've seen other threads talking about the long crank and HPFP failure. Is the sputter a part if this or could it be something else. Any idea what the cost would be if this is the issue?

Much Appreciated

Try cleaning the fuel injectors first.

Sounds like the (regular) fuel pump is losing its prime.
My son had this in his truck and it lasted for years.

Leve the ignition on for a few seconds before starting.
