My 97 528I manual is on the fritz as always. But this recent problem seems to be one of those problems that should be ez to fix.... so here it is.

My brake lights are on constantly as though I am riding the brakes. I have pulled the LCM and replaced it with one I know works, but that did not help. The tail lights on the car are aftermarket, but they were there when I purchased the car. They do cause the tail light out lights on the dash to be on but that is because of the load issue. No Diagnostic codes, so I am at a loss.

May be that the switch on the brake pedel is shorted close and causing the lights too be on all the time--thats my guess.

Check the type of bulb that's installed. There may be a dual filament bulb in the wrong place.

Try testing the current at the switch... before the LCM... in the LCM... try to isolate the problem. Thats what I would do...
