First...thanks to all who talked me out of a newer 335 convertible into a 2008 M3 convertible. Everytime I get up to 7500 rpm it takes me in an hour to stop grinning. Six months in and I am in love with the car...but...

Is there anything I can do about the horrid I-drive...my god.

I have a 2010 M3 and love the I-Drive on it. I bring that up because I have a 2006 530 XIT and while I don't HATE the I-Drive, I'm certainly not a fan of it. I'd love to hear about any one upgrading to a newer I-Drive for my older vehicle.

2009 received the upgraded idrive. It is a vast improvement.

I seem to recall seeing some mention of kits, but with a 4-figure price tag.

I guess everybody is different. I have no complaints with idrive but I mostly use it for sirius, ipod, and telephone. I rarely use navigation for directions.

Did you get the upgrade itself? What did it consist of? Was it hardware and software, hardware only, or only software? What did you get with the upgrade that you didn't have before?

When you say upgraded kits, are you talking $1K or $9K?

I might do a $1K, but certainly not $9K.

Sorry, no, I bought an 09 but later discovered that it had the newer config.

I seem to recall figures near $3k but I will do some digging and see if I can find that info.

I'm on a few boards, just not sure where I saw it.

If you get good, used parts on eBay and do the coding yourself (search for details) the total cost may be less than $2000 for the swap.
