perhaps old news to those of you who saw my post on the org a few days ago.

anyway, I don't want to repeat anything since I didn't get permission. I will say that he really knows his shi*t and that the new shark injector is not as far off as some people have made it seem. it sounds like it's gonna be a great product that will actually make some HP.

it wasn't really a problem per se. since the 325/330 now ONLY have the OBD-II connecter vs. OBD-II and BMW service port, the shark injector had to be redesigned to be useable on the OBD-II port.

Will he use the same unit with an extender? or a whole new design?

I think it's gonna be all new. he seems to be a big subscriber to the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) method so people can successfully perform the flash update on their own.

Good advice when you are letting an untrained person mess with thier car's software.

that's news.

because he ranted over at the z3coupe board about the minimal gains to be had with the modern BMW engines (in response to some baiting, to be sure).

in the final analysis, what i got out of it was that the software nowadays does little to nothing and the true gains from here on out are headers, cams, intakes...i.e. hardware.

now, that could be for M motors, mostly, but i'd be hard pressed to believe we will see true gains from just software anymore on the dual vanos BMW engines. he even admits it's a bit of a feat and that's why he's still tweaking it. unless the shark injector comes with a OBD2 adaptation reset button, that is.

Re: that's news.

why do feel that the Dinan supercharger is "dumb"

agreed. I like my stage-II suspension.

what is the LTW in "...dinan stage 2 clutch/LTW...."? LighT flyWheel?

I hope so. The hardware and chip mods I've seen do essentially nothing, although the mufflers and CAI sound cool.
you must be refering to the Dinan products. I think these newer exhaust designs that remove the resonator are making some HP.

I would probably never put a third party CAI back on my car. *mayyyybe* a Conforti because of the ITG. even that would be a stretch for me.

shucks.

well, jim conforti is a programmer. that's why he does. while that's fine for reprogramming ECUs, he doesn't have the R&D like dinan (love 'em or hate 'em) has. dinan's core philosophy is (a) to make money and (b) to produce products which last at least 100k miles.

so, when it comes to hardware, i really like dinan. it's pricey, but, what else am i going to do to satiate the need for tinkering?

dumb and supercharger. they belong in the same sentence because trying to make a bmw a muscle car is stupid. it's not what they do well. they handle well. HP for the curves, and i really didn't need that supercharger after all...once i learned that i'm just as fast non-SC'd but as a better driver with a solid suspension underneath me.

LTW --> yeah, lightweight flywheel. very fun. very quick to redline. dual mass clutches and flywheels are just incompatible with "feel" and performance.

cheers,
coky

what about final drive ratio changes?

how much was the flywheel in total (parts and labor)

I think I remember Dinan's head of engineering telling me that they would be developing a light flywheel for the 330 and maybe even under drive pulleys.
