One FACEBOOK E38 group told me, several times, that a E38 can use a E65 20in wheel. the changes of wheels would work. I installed one front tire off the E65 and I’m rubbing underneath the strut spring plate.
BMW says OEM tires are 245/55R16 at about 26in diameter.
I haveE65 wheels size 245/35R20 at about 26in diameter.

so the E65 wheels should work on a E38 with the right tire? I know many others have used these wheels. Just trying to learn how to also.
Thank you

Wheel specs are similar between the e38 & e65/e66. The TIRE SIZE IS DIFFERENT. If you mount e65/e66 wheels on an e38…you need to stay with the e38 TIRE sizes. What size 20” tires did the FB group say you should mount?

What’s the e65 wheel style number or name? Or what is the wheel’s specs? Is the wheel too wide for the e38’s front position? Is it greater than 9”?

The e65 20” tire sizes are usually staggered…so the rear are wider than the front:
  • 245/40/20 (front)
  • 275/35/20 (rear)

Use a tire size calculator to help figure out what size you can use and not use…here’s a common one: www.willtheyfit.com

The tire size you wrote down is what came with the wheels. I need 244/35/20 tires for my E38. No interest in staggering them. No one can explain to me the reason to stagger apart from looks. I like in the driest place in the US. Traction is never a problem.

Came with
  • 245/40/20 (front)
  • 275/35/20 (rear) and I need 245/35/20 to stay with the 26.4in diameter between OEM and these 20in wheels. I will lose 4 tire rotations per mile. 🤷🏻‍♂️
