I was day dreaming the other day about all of the cars I'd like to own--and though it would be fun for all of to post our "ideal" collection.

In no particular order mine are:
Ferrari F355 w/ manual transmission not SMG(For some reason, I just like it better than the 360)
-1972 silver or fjord blue BMW 2002 Tii w/ BBS style wheels
-1972 BMW 3.0 CSL in fjord blue (i love the way those old Bimmers look in light colors)
-1968- 1973 Porsche 911
-Lamborghini Miura in yellow
-2003 BMW 540 touring w/ sport package and all options (for long trips). Ideally, I'd actually like a 530 due to the better balance and r&p steering in black.
-1995 BMW M5 (love the E34, so I figured I'd take the last model year of the high performance model)
-Late 70s Mercedes 300SEL 6.9. (I want atleast 1 tank-like "classic" merc)
-1989 Mercedes 560SEL in dark blue-- the last well built and beautiful S class.
-1991 BMW 325is (I'm not really into the gen I M3).
-Audi S8 in silver
-Audi RS4 in black
-Porsche Boxster S in silver
-Porsche 911 GT2 in silver (hey, why not?)
-Jaguar XJ6 mark I or a Daimler "double six" (I realize it would break all of the time, but I love the look of those classic XJs) in silver of BRG.
-2002 Honda S2000 in black (so it would have the glass rear window)
-2003 E46 M3 in avus blue.
-2003 Range Rover in black (what the E65 should've been design and interior wise)
-early 70s Fiat Dino
-Jaguar E-type - mark I

1) Red Ferrari 288 GTO

2) 2000 Topaz Blue 323Ci

3) 2004 Bright Red Z4 3.0

4) 2000 Yellow Porsche 911 Carrera Targa

5) 2006 LeMans BlueBMW M6

6) 2003 Black Ford 150 Pickup

7) 2004 Sterling Grey 760iL

8) Dark Blue 3.0 CSi, dropped in a 3.2 liter with twin webbers.

9) Dark Blue BMW 507.

10) Henna Red E30 M3 (Track car)

Except for the Ferrari and the 507, which will be garage queens, my wife would get one daily driver (presumably the Z4) and I would get one daily driver (duh, the 323Ci) and probably each take 2 other cars out a week.

I may be the only one to say this, but...

I'd just love to have an early 1970's Cadillac El Dorado convertible. That's one spiffy car.

I'd also be very happy with a garage full of Ferraris, Porches, and BMW's like everyone else here. But the Cadillac is a sweet, smooth ride that is not a sports car at all, but a real pleasure in other ways.

:)

You guys reminded me of a few other dream cars:
-A 60s Lincoln Continental convertible in light blue
-a McClaren F1 (how could I forget such an obvious choice)
-Early 70s Shelby Mustang
-Mid 60s AC Cobra
-Late 80s Mercedes 500E (the ultimate bahn-stormer).

Jon-
I'd also like atleast 1 pimped out 70s barge in my collection-- the Eldorado would probably be a good choice!

So, in looking at all of our lists we all seem to have pretty similar cars. We're all obviously "car enthusiasts", who may come from very different backgrounds, etc-- but we all seem to share a somewhat common understanding of what constitutes a desireable car. That's the thing about truly "good design"-- there's no need to have heated arguments a la Chris Bangle's flame surfacing and the E65-- we just know a good design when we see it. If you look at the current Bangle designs in the light of great designs from history-- it becomes pretty obvious that they don't pass the "good design test". I didn't intend for this to be a bangle-bashing post-- but the thought just occurred to me after reading through the lists. The E65, Z4, and other Bangle designs do what you don't see in good designs-- they use lots of extraneous ornamentation and gimicks (much like a mid 70s American land yacht). All of the cars we listed possess a purity of line and form that just isn't found on the current bimmers-- love 'em or hate 'em. :dunno: Maybe we should send these lists to BMW so that they can do some studying.
