I did a major tuneup about 6 Mo ago on my E46 330i, Changed sparkplugs and ignition coils as well as most critical gaskets. Since then I have had 2 ignition coils fail. Before I did the tuneup I had #2 fail and that is what prompted me to do the tune up. A few weeks ago #3 failed, I replaced all was good. Today #5 failed. With this recent failure I also got a diagnostic 281D BSD generator signal.
Seems this is related to the alternator. I will check again after I replace the ignition coil, but could these failures be related and causing ignition coils to fail?

What brand are the new coils? Then need to be either Bosch or Bremi. Everything else is second rate. Be advised that installing aftermarket “performance” coils will net you zero performance improvement and a lighter wallet. Stick with those brands.

Cool, thanks for info on how to read the OBC functions.

Using the OBC I am seeing a consistent 13.4 volts driving home last night. I assume that is ok.
