i have a 97 328i with a spinning ignition problem and found a temp soultion to shut the car off untill i could work on it this weekend , i pulled the fuel pump fuse and disconnected the battery every time i parked now i have repaired the swith but the car still wont shut off i have even removed the swith to turn with a screw driver and no go what to do?????could there be a damaged relay from disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and where would it be located???i have gone as far as removing the switch from the car and when i connect the battery the dash lights up, heater runs windows work like it's stuck in the on position.

If it still lights up/runs with the switch unplugged, you've got a bad main relay or shorted wiring.

You mean it still runs with that relay pulled? Your wiring is screwed up somewhere. No way it should run with that relay pulled. Start looking for melted insulation on the wires, places where the wires could melt together and short out.
