Installing M3 steering wheel w/SMGII paddles

I posted about this in the DIY forum:

If anyone has any insights or experience, I'd really appreciate some guidance. I'm not an electrical engineer, but I do understand how switches, electricity, etc works.

I just want to get as much info as possible on this before I spend the $$ and take my car apart to do this.

Anyone have any helpful info?

Look in the archives...

Search for postings by VinceTopasBlau3 -- he did this.
Yeah, that's the thing.. I did that, I found some info, but not quite enough.. and Vince doesn't want to tell how he made his wiring harness or go into any details.

:(

So I was hoping someone else could help me out.. Anyone else have any ideas?

I doubt you'll get far on the project with out a Bentley Manual and several hours of free time. I think Vincent shared that the //M paddle wheel is back ordered in US so getting your hands on one will be a challenge at this point.

My suggestion, fly out to Bimmerfest and see it in person:)

Well, I'm going to get a Bentley manual as soon as they publish it for the '02 cars. (they aren't out yet are they?)

I can come up with a few hours to do the install in, and I can also order a steering wheel, and wait patiently. It's not a big deal. I just want some insights into it, because .. well, I think working from something existing is better than reinventing the wheel.
