In light of all the threads about the resurgence of the manual transmission, I decided to do some investigating of my own today. I went up to the dealer and took a quick look inside every 3 series on the lot and this is what I saw:

Out of a total of 23 cars (sedan, coupe, convertible, and 1 M3) there were only 5 manual transmissions..! Many of these were equipped with the sport package which added to my surprise. Oh well, I guess the resurgence hasn't quite caught on here yet...

5 out of 23 is almost 25 percent. That's not bad for a dealer lot, given that dealers tend to stock automatics because they're easier to sell.

What a coincidence! I did the same thing this PM...

I didn't count how many cars I check out because out of several (30+) sitting in the lot, only one was manual: 525i SP...

My dealer said the hardest car to keep is the 530i manual.

I really want to drive one, because the gearing is different then the 330 and I want to try it out.

Manual

I read somewhere that almost 50% of the 3ers imported were manuals. An astoundingly high percent for a car in this price range. Personally I think that a 3 with an auto xmission is a contradiction in terms.
