Is it possible to change seats?

973 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  The HACK
I have a 2002 325xi cw,pp,sp and I seem to be having some pains in my lower back from the seat. Is it possible to by the sports seat with lumbar support from the 330 and install it in the 325. If so does anyone know how much this might cost?
Thanks in advance

No idea regarding the cost... (it won't be cheap) But it is possible. People swap SP for non-SP seats and vice versa all the time. The lumbar mechanismi is fully integrated into the seat, so I doubt there would be a problem.
I priced a new driver's seat thinking if I went without PP and no lumbar support, maybe I could upgrade to a lumbar support seat in the future.

The cost was $3,741 (estimate by parts guy). This includes a whole array of parts that may not be required.

I know seats are a hot item in terms of theft in other lands. Sometimes, only the seats are stolen. Insurance companies often write off a car as a total loss because it costs so much just to replace seats.

Sorry.

Try a BMW salvage dealer. I'm sure it'll still cost a bundle.

Try changing the angle of the back portion of the seat or the angle of the lower cushion (the tilt feature). This could help take the stress off the part of your back that is feeling the pain.

In other words, the angle you are sitting now is causing an uncomfortable stress on your back, these seats have so many adjustments that you really need to play around with them so you get that particular stress off the portion of your back that has the pain.

Once in a blue moon I will get some back pain when driving on my car and I have the sport seats with Lumbar support and the lumbar support does nothing to help ease the pain. I adjust the seat a little differently and it helps.

The real stress on your back is your head. Seriously . . . unless you had a back injury then most likely you are stressing on something else and it is coming out in form of back pain.

Stress comes out in people in many ways . . . some people get pimples, some people get ulcers and some people get backpain, etc.etc.

Anyway, I hope this works for you . . . BTW that will be $50 for my medical advice ;)

Seats are easy to change...The rail is held down by 4 bolts that's easily accessible and probably shouldn't be more than a couple of hours work DIY. The hardest part would probably be wiggling them out of the door, but ifyou have a coupe it's a piece of cake because coupe doors are so big.
