I’ve just rolled over 4000 miles. Noticed some unusual sound on the cold engine, it got quieter as engine was warming up, but still there, especially with stethoscope. It’s not the grinding sound I would expect from the bad bearing – more like pinging or light knocking. Anybody experienced the same problem?
Thanks.

What makes you suspect it's the water pump?

Are you using 91+ octane gas? =)

Sorry, I @#$%ed up.

It is the Power Steering Pump I'm talking about.
I can hear that knocking the best when I touch the housing under the Power Steering reservoir with stethoscope.
I don't know what BMW valves sound like during detonation, but I think it should be pretty close to other engines.
Yes, I use 91 octane.
Thanks

You're using a stethoscope to monitor engine sounds?! Good lord I think we have an alee clone here... do you use Zaino religiously 3x a day also? =)
