Jon Shafer- would you be able to help a few of us out...

A bunch of us on the board are having questions/problems figuring out what the proper amount of "toe-in" is for the E46 (w/ sp if it matters). Would you be able to ask one the techs at your dealership what the toe-in is on cars straight from the factory? Thanks for your help.

People interested include:
Rchoudry, PG, Kaz, Geomax and others.

Proper Toe angles:

Front: 0 deg 14' +/- 8'

Rear: 0 deg 16' +/- 6'

on all E46s
I dunno if I was clear or not, but I've got no real complaints that toe can fix (I want more steering boost at low speeds!). Yes, the car isa tad darty, but only below 75mph or so, and I also think my current tires (PZero Rosso) are at least partly to blame.

Above 75mph, the steering (mine is non-retro 5/01 new-new) is rock solid, a behavior I would expect of a German car.

Also, its said that Mac strut cars are less darty than, say, multilink setups, all things being equal. But my old Galant, which was multilink, displayed the exact opposite tendency to my bimmer.
Nate-

Did you get those values from the Bentley manual? If so, i think you may have misread them-- the Bentley manual says .07 +/- .09 for the TOTAL front toe-in so you don't need to double it.

That's not what mine says :dunno:

It is total, which I left out, but not .07 +/- .09 :dunno:

What page was that on? I'll double check the chart i was looking at-- i probably just "brain farted". sorry about that. The max total toe-in of .24 is still a lot less than what i've seen elsewhere on this board and what my dealer told me. Anyway, I was curious to see what actual number e46s are set to from the factory-- i'd assume .14' if Bentley's is correct.
