I was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to a few questions. We just picked up my wife's mineral grey X1 last night, and I have a few questions:

1) How do I check the tire pressure using the computer? It just lets me reset the PSI.

2) How do I lower the seat height? There's a lever that you can pull to raise the height, but it doesn't go back down if you keep pulling it, and it doesn't push. Just pull.

3) Is there a way to tell whether we did get the xDrive besides the label on the side doors? We ordered Servotronic, and the steering is soooo light, and we wanted to make sure that it still has the hydraulic power assist and not the electric one in the sDrive. And prove of the car being an Xdrive or how I can identify a hydraulic pump would be greatly appreciated.

4) Can the all-wheel-drive system be deactivated (i.e., with a push of a button)?

I can tell you that the computer will not tell you the tire pressure it only gives you a warning when your tire pressure goes below the standard pressure for you tire. A warning light appears and this goes off if you reset the PSI then if your tire is flat it will repeat. The screen will show yellow where the trouble is but will not tell you what the pressure is. This has been from my experience from my past BMW's and Mini coopers. Look up your Vin number online and it will tell you exactly what you have. The seat I have no idea unless you have power seat then you have an option to raise the seat up. Congrad's hope this sorta helps...

1) You have to do yourself with a tyre pressure gauge
2) Pull level and push down
3) look under the front wheels there there are drive shafts to front wheels then XDrive

If the steering is Hydraulic you will see the PS fluid reservior as soon as you pop the hood. It looks like a small black canister with a star shapped knob to remove the top. I assume the steering feels like the E9X series, no?.

There are 2 star-shape caps on the left hand side under the hood. One has CHF 11 written on the top of the cap, and the other has the words "Do not open when hot" and 140 written in the middle of the cap. I'm hoping that one of these is the reservoir for the hydraulic fluid pump.

I never had a 3 series. We sold our 2009 535i xDrive back to the dealership, and ordered the X1 for more ground clearance. My wife says her 535i xDrive's hydraulic steering was perfect, and that this X1 xDrive28i with Servotronic is just so much lighter than that. I've been driving our Porsche since May, so this Servotronic steering feels so light and Japanese like to me.

Just saw my sDrive today and it appears to have EPS despite ordering Servotronic. I didn't drive it yet but I'll have to see how it compares to the sDrive EPS w/o Servotronic. The EPS w/o Servo was already light at low speed; hopefully Servo makes it heavier at low speeds. The best steering combination may be HPS w/o servo.

It's the cap on the left that's up highest, must be the one that says CHF 11 the other one might be your expansion tank. Mine doesn't have that one and my expansion tank seems to be on the right.

Thanks for the help, Bimmerized. I think you're in luck since the EPS with Servotronic can be programmed to have heavier steering if you wanted as per past discussions on here.

And to answer the other question, no you cannot deactivate AWD. All of the programming is designed specifically for xDrive. This isn't 4wd; you don't have a transfer case that you can deactivate. It's AWD. The whole stability programming and power distribution revolves around the AWD system working.

Why would you want to deactivate it?

Servotronic feedback

Investor, are you folks still unhappy with your Servo? I'm ordering an xdrive28i and had originally intended to go with servo, but after reading your comments I'm thinking of striking that option.

Hi Netarc,

Below is what I just posted over at the xBimmer forum in regards to my experience with the Servotronic option. I had done a lot of researching and reading comments from everyone suggesting that one should get the servotronic option and "thank me later." I think without it the steering is just too heavy. With it, it's a bit light, but nothing that would put me off. I strongly suggest tracking down a dealership who has some X1s with both options (with and without servotronic), and test drive them for yourself. Let me know if you have any other questions in regard to the X1. I'm always glad to help:

"I honestly didn't like the Servotronic at first, and I still don't. But I haven't been driving it much. Had it for 3 weeks now, but it's my wife's car. I thought the steering was a bit too light. Even my wife thought it was too light, lighter than our 535i xDrive we had. I've been driving my Porsche all summer, which has just the perfect steering since the engine is not directly over the front wheels, so of course, the X1 seems too light to me with Servotronic. I really wish there was a way to adjust the Servotronic just a notch or two heavier, though.

As for the X1 steering wheel being unstable over 80mph, I have not experience that at all. Not even at 90mph. Not even at... :beerchug:
