Well gents, honestly, I don't know.
You see, in the design department, we create art. While we may have a preferred location for unsightly but necessary items such as keyholes, the engineers determine final placement. And they truly have no sense of aesthetics, unfortunately.
However, there is much more beneath the skin of the various E46 models that is different than most people suspect. I'm sure those barbarian engineers have their reasons.
By the way, is it just me, or do trunklid keyholes make any of you think of a sphincter?
