So I leave an unopened diet soda in the cup holder of my girl during the summer. When I return to her after work, I find the soda has exploded and evidently soaked the shifter boot. All of the liquid has already evaporated and the boot is hard as a rock. Furthermore, the leather had shrunk so much that I had to remove the boot to shift.

Subsequent efforts to soften the leather have been unsuccessful. Soaking it in hot water will make it pliable and I can stretch it back out. However, no matter how much I continue to stretch the leather, once it dries it becomes hard and shrinks again. Liberal use of mineral oil on the boot has also failed

Any advice???

Thanks
