This is a sad tale of a pocketbook being slipped down beside the passenger seat which ended up pressing on the switch to tilt the seat back........for about 7 hours.
Unfortunately the weakest link in the power seat mechanism turned out to be a small plastic gear in the geartrain that reduces the electric motor speed down and its torque up to move the seat back.
Looking on REALOEM.COM it appears that while the motor is a separately orderable part, the geartrain it turns to move the seat back is not. You have to buy the entire seat base mechanism for $834 USD. :yikes:
I started one of those "fan out" searches for used car parts on the Internet, but so far nothing.
Does anyone know of a good BMW "wrecker" that might have some bent up Z4s?
Thanks,
Bill
