I remember reading a thread somewhere that was linked from either the Fest or the Forums. The guy had switched an LS1 into an older 3-series, and found it was lighter than the inline 6.

I was thinking the other day that it'd be absolutely sick to get a cheap old high mileage 528i and get an S54 powertrain in there

Yeah, I would love to do a 528IT with an M3 engine. But then, an LS1 with a 6-speed would be fun too.

And IIRC, it was a late-80s 325 with an LS1.

Jaguar Guys do that. It's called "Lumper" And my father's looking to get one. They can be had for cheap.

Interesting that it sounded just like an M62 starting. I would think if they went through all the trouble to swap in an LS1, they would just mount a GM starter with it. I guess the BMW one mates with the GM flywheel fine?
