M Rdstr Clutch Job...

1601 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Randy Forbes
While I was at the dealer today, I took a dozen photos of an M Rdstr (from the underside) that was having the clutch replaced.

Looks like a pretty simple job, easily within the range of a good shadetree mechanic (in other words, I could do it).

Biggest deal about wanting to see the details, is now I know how easy it would be to swap the flywheel...

What's the weight off the factory flywheel and what weight flywheel were you looking to put in?

Good questions.
Unsure of the weight of the (dual mass) factory flywheel and I am only aware of one aftermarket (solid) flywheel available.

Not something that I am going to run right out and do, just like to keep up to date with what's on the market. As it is, there are precious few mods for the S-54 engine.

BTW, that is not my car getting a new clutch. That particular 2000 M Rdstr only had 9400 miles on it.

Sounds like my wife was driving it :tsk:
Randy why a new clutch,Based on miles logged on this post is this the S-54 and why!Did your clutch go.I also am looking into flywheel magic I here Dinan may have one coming,Jay Lilly also wants to do this mod..Looks like my winter project,Ron say`s The best way to clean the under carriage is to remove the sheetmetal well heck we may as well go all the way..!See ya at Toppoco.
I know what Ron means he may be right.Thats why I will not be the first on this one,If Dinan post a warranty and there is proper drive time on the engine,Well KA-BOOM.May be,May be they will come out with a V-8 soon that can fit under are hood!Ron was never a fan of under drive or touching large moving parts that go round! Remember Ron has seen large aircraft engines test for years.
