M5 Sport Steering Wheel

Does anyone know if there would be any compatibility issues with utilizing a sport steering wheel and airbag from a 2002 M5 manufactured in August 2001 on 2003 525i manufactured in May 2003? In searching Real OEM I find that something changed in March 2002 although the part numbers stayed the same:

The round airbag for my 2003 525i manufactured in May 2003:
09 HUB CAP, AIRBAG from 03/2002 32306757891
09 HUB CAP, AIRBAG1 from 09/2001 to 03/2002 32306757891

The sport steering wheel for my 2003 525i manufactured in May 2003
01 M sports strng whl,airb.leath.,multifunc SCHWARZ/SCHWARZ 1 from 09/2001 32342282025

The round airbag from the 2002 M5 manufactured in August 2001:
09 HUB CAP, AIRBAG 1 from 09/2000 to 03/2002 32306757891

The sport steering wheel from the 2002 M5 manufactured in August 2001:
01 M sports strng whl,airb.leath.,multifunc SCHWARZ/SCHWARZ 1 from 09/2000 22342282020

I followed the rules by completely disconnecting the battery before installing but still ended up with the airbag light! What happened in March 2002?

I had a problem with the passenger seat sensor. I bought the Peake SRS tool on Amazon for about $100. Saved more than that by avoiding a trip to the dealer.

Might try reading the code. It may just need a reset. Worth a try, but the M5 wheel may not be compatible, or the air bag is busted. Is it a new wheel?

No... Both the wheel and airbag came from the same M5....I bought them from Potomoc German Auto which I would think is a reputable dealer in salvaged auto parts....all the multi-function buttons work too after the swap.

Update

Update for the knowledge base:
There are two (2) fault codes associated with the drivers airbag according to my indy. They can be reset but appear again once you turn on the ignition. Potomac German Auto is sending me a new round airbag manufactured after March 2002. I wll provide a further update once the swap occurs and a 2nd attempt at resetting the airbag light occurs.

Final Update

For those who care.....
Potomoc German Auto stepped up and immediately sent me a newer airbag...one removed from a 2003 530i...manufactured after March 2002.....after research of what things should look like......I also noticed that the locking clips for the air bag connectors were missing....the wire with connectors is attached to the M Sport Steering wheel by a ground wire......the clips were probably broken off by the person who originally removed the airbag and steering wheel from the M5......I went and purchased part #32301097246 and replaced that also....This morning I went to my local indy for another reset and I am happy to report..NO MORE AIRBAG LIGHT.

Unfortunately I will never know if it was the broken locking clips or the airbag that was pre March 2002 that caused my inability to reset the airbag light....my recommendation for anyone performing this swap is to pay attention to the March 2002 date as it relates to the donor airbag and your particular E39.
