I have put 5k miles on the car.....but never put the sport plus or sport mode on until today. Wow....car is crazy fast. I've had it on comfort just because I have bigger wheels on it and wanted the ride to be nice. It's like a whole new car on sport.....more get up and go than my M6 had seemingly.

Question....does anyone know if the sport or sport plus profiles lower the suspension as opposed to the normal or comfort mode?

No I don't think it does. The Sport Mode firms up the shocks, changes throttle and transmission settings as well as steering feel. Sport Plus turns off traction control and vehicle stability control so be careful. I prefer Sport Mode for around town driving, the shift points are better. I sometimes just move the shifter to the DS position as this puts the transmission into Sport mode without changing the ride or steering, depends on the road conditions.

Thank goodness someone has begun a thread here celebrating one of the 7's many tremendous strengths - torque and horsePOWER! It's been Sport Mode (and DS Position) from day-1, and that's made the transition from the M6, for me, virtually seamless.

hmm was actually curious about DS.

1. if u r in comfort or normal - then just the tranny shift points change - matching sports mode?

2. if already in Sports mode - does nothing?

3. if in sports plus - does nothing?

Also, from sports to sports plus - no change in tranny shift points right?

As it was explained to me, the Sport Mode setting affects the suspension and steering. The Sport Plus is Sport Mode with disengaged traction controls. The DS shifter position affects the transmission shift point. Thus, the driver is able to adjust for a myriad of ride and performance settings. For example, the driver can choose Sport with the shifter in D; DM, and choose their own shift points; or DS and automatically allow for longer 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear shifts.

One observation, In sport plus mode it does not fully turn off traction control. Put the car in sport plus mode then hold the DSC button down for about 3-5 seconds and then it shuts all traction control off, you will receive a notification on the dash.

The first picture is the instrument panel putting it in sport plus mode. The second two pictures are after holding it down for a few seconds. You will note on the dash below the speedo the notification has changed to DSC inactive. (Sorry for bad pics)

Off course the standard disclaimer applies, in this mode you are now on your own with no "nannies" present.

PS-I have a Sh** eating grin when I drive mine, its a fantastic car. I could post on a ton of positives, I would not know where to start.

My sentiments exactly! I was dying to get to this car...and I was previously driving BMW's equivalent to the Batmobile, an M6 convertible!

I'd like clarification on this as well. Sport Mode definitely affects the drivetrain (read: transmission shift points), but I believe it affects it differently than putting the transmission into Sport (DS), such that I do not believe it's redundant to have the car in Sport Mode as well as DS. Anyone have any additional insight on this? Thanks.

I know the Alpina shifts 95% of the power to the rear axle,(xDrive) this information was not easy to come by I found it buried in some Alpina literature. I can only guess the 750 has some similar characteristics but I would not know where to find the information on total impact of each mode. It would be nice to have it all on one document.

Sport mode definitely has to change throttle response. If the car is rated at 400 HP and 450 torque....it feels like 500HP and 550 torque in sport plus. It goes NOW. In comfort mode....it seems hesitant. Seems faster than my M6....seriously (and that is 507HP and 380 torque).

SWB.....you said sport plus does not automatically turn off traction control. Is the traction control warning the light the little orange one in between the tach and engine temp gauges in your pic? If so, mine automatically turns off when I put it in sport plus.

Yes it does put DSC into a more aggressive driving mode. Once you have done this, reach down and hold the DSC off button down for a few seconds and you will see this now completely shuts DSC off. This will be indicated by a statement "DSC Inactive " below the speedometer.

In-laws were driving an m6 convert. they hated it mostly because of the horrible shifting. it felt like someones first time out. i did beat a guy in an M6 off the line with my S8 once. He didnt seem to know what he was doing. The 7 Xdrive cant be as quick as an M6, can it?

The 7 is quicker off the line in my opinion. The thing about the SMG in the M6, which I had to learn, is that the shifts are much smoother and quicker when the car is being driven like you stole it.

Hi guys. When you disable DSC by holding down that button for couple of second In sport+ mode it kills throttle response. its like it turns back to comfort mode. Has anyone realized that? It show that you are still on sport+ mode (You can see it on the screen) but that doesnt feel like it.

in sport plus mode you engage the dynamic traction control. it will not inhibit wheel spin on launch as much, i had a good description once, but cant remember, but it is a lot different that shutting off traction control.
