I'm planning on getting a '04-'05 530i this year. I can't wait!!!

Car will be automatic since it's practicable here in NYC. I'm looking for silver as the color first, preferrably with the M-tech kit all around to save some money by not having to do it later. Interior must be black leather and if it has the red seats that would be nice.

Questions:

- I assume the engine and it's problems are the same as the E46? Cooling system, oil separator, etc.

- Do the standard package 5's come with sport suspension or does it need the sport package? (My E46 had sport shocks since it was standard from 2002+)

Mods I have in mind already are the following:

- Mtech kit front and back
- Probably a deeper sounding exhaust (most likely RPI)
- Custom fabricated air scoops
- Black grills
- Yellow hid fogs
- 6000k angel eyes and lows
- white led reverse and led license plate bulbs
- maybe m5 steering wheel later
- aluminum interior trim

That's about it.

Thanks!

Welcome over to the dark side. Thought I recognized your nick from the E46 forum...

Yes, in the 530i the engine is the same as the 330i. Same problems, same issues... and all nice easy fixed. In truth if i hadn't got it in my head that I really wanted at least one car in my life with a ridiculous large V8 I probably would have got a 530i myself :D Can't complain too much about the 545i though...

No, the standard E60 comes with standard suspension. You need the sports package for the E60 if you want it to drive anything even close to your 330i. Bear in mind though that it IS going to be heavier and thus a bit slower. The sports package in general though brings this car to life. I've driven a 2004 545i both with and without sport suspension and the difference is stunning.

My 545i drives as well as or better than my 330i did, though mine was mostly stock. The extra power and better hp/weight ratio doesn't hurt, and though you're not interested in a stick I find the stick in my 545i to be much better than the one in my '01 330.

Good luck, mate :)

Thanks for the tips.

I don't mind it being slower which I know it is. Good thing with the engine at least, I have a wholesale account so parts will be no issue. I'll try to find the sport package one.

As for the sports package, what does it include? Thanks. (It needs to have premium package too)

It will be very hard to find a 2004 530 with the Mtech exterior styling because there was no Mtech option that model year. You'll definitely want the sport package, but will need to purchase the mtech kit separately. My 530 has been very solid as long as I've owned it.

try looking over here; http://forums.5series.net/forum/35-complete-car-sales/

always have a lot of cars for sales that already have some mods on them!
Wow, they have some beautiful ones there. Thanks!

Alright, that's no problem then. I'll just start with the front bumper and wheels at once, then rear bumper.

not really, the 5 series only weighs 55lbs more, BMW used aluminum to keep the weights similar in the 5 series.

Not quite; 165lbs according to my sources. He's coming from an E46 330i (3285lbs) to an E60 530i (3450lbs). Basically he's got me sitting in the car constantly :)
