Here's something thats been bugging me. I keep seeing folks post pics of their brand new cars at the delivery center. Almost all have been under 3 miles. Well, here's mine:

8 Miles. Now if I picked up a car in the USA - 8 miles is no big deal, but it just seems so much higher than other EDs I've seen. I was too jet lagged to even ask about this when we took delivery. Not that it matters given that I piled on another 1300 miles during our trip...

I'm not loosing sleep over this, but wondered if anyone else has had more than a couple miles on their car at ED.

I guess it's all part of the new car 'paranoia'. If I had the damn thing, I'd be too busy driving to even post about this stuff!

I had 5 miles on mine. I think lower miles is a bad thing...maybe they didn't test your car enough and something could be wrong. You can be sure yours was tested a bit more...perhaps...or the techs were doing donuts in the parking lot! :p

I heard on one of these threads that BMW tests them at the factory and then they roll back the odometer. I guess they did not go all the way back? :dunno:

My understanding (could be completely wrong) is the car's odometer starts at a very high number (e.g., 999998) and the testing takes it to approx 0. This would be consistent with my observation of the testing at the Munich factory tour. It is not that extensive, unless they feel there is some problem.

Actually, I don't know how the E90s get from the Munich factory to Freimann. Maybe they just drove yours over? Anyone know?

That's an interesting theory. My E60 had 1 mile on it, but I'm pretty sure that it would have been trucked from Dingolfing!

Think of it this way: almost everyone else doesn't get to live in San Diego.....does life seem more fair to you now?

I swear this wait for redelivery is turning me into a nut. Listen to me...

"my new BMW's not here"
"my delivery mileage is too high"
"my cars not a 335i"
"my Nav won't have realtime traffic"
"the sky is falling"

You're absolutely right - I live in paradise, the sun is shining, I have my health and there's a brand new car with my name on it, just days away.

Talk about a panning zoom, reality check! Thanks for some much needed perspective.

(now where's my car dagnammit...)

;)

If you have to wait 8 weeks (as we did on the West Coast) then you will have something to complain about (maybe).

Mine had 2 miles and I thought that was high.
At the Dingolfing tour the gent told us the cars come off the line with -2 mi on the ODO.

I guess there are some computer glitches otherwise my car was the lunch car for a day or two - haha.
Grip, it looks like your car was the lunch car for a week!

No sweat.

BTW, I saw the factory workers literally light up the tires on M cars right off the line, several times (M5, M6).
So don't think you are the first one to be "hard" on your car - these are driver's cars...

That's what one MB salesman told me about BMW's. He said MB does not do that.

Hmmmm...maybe BeeWang took Gripster's car joy riding around the parking lot, that's what he does!:)

Who said that it? What was it he was trying to sell you? ;)

If it was BeeWang no worries. Without his DVD rental, I would still be lost in Naples. If anyone else has done donuts in my car, they're in for a kicking.:p

It was from Chrischeung. Dingolfing official told his wife that cars would start at (-2) miles on the dash.

Mine had 2 miles on it. As for lighting up the tires: I worked at a Chevy plant in the late 60s...believe me, the GTOs (Built on the same line as Chevelles) and Super Sports were well broken in before they got to the dealer!

Glad I ordered a '67 442 from the plant, instead. Can't remember how many miles it had.

Who said that it? What was it he was trying to sell you? >>>

This was from the MB ED specialist at one dealership in Houston. He posted that bit of info on his monthly newsletter a few months back. To me, it doesn't make any diff how many miles my car will have at delivery. As long as I know Bee wasn't using it as practice for World Rally down the delivery center parking lot, I'm ok.

Hey Guys,

Did your cars have more miles on it after you dropped it off in Munich and picked it up in the US? My car had 23 more miles after I dropped it off in Munich. You think the VPC'ers used it for errands or my dealer went on a joy ride?

I expect mine to have 600+ extra miles after drop off. I dropped it off in Rome and so it had to be driven (yes driven:yikes: ) to Munich.
