Not only is it a 6cyl, take a look at the intake side. An M expert should be able to verify it, but that looks like a 6-throttle-body M intake setup to me.

Same here... That Mini must fly! :yikes:

That IS an ///M engine. S52 looks like...No engine cover, but the tell tale signs are the 6 individual throttle body and intake, as well as the aluminum oil filter found only on ///M motors.

I looked in the guy who posted the pics directory trying to find out more info. It's defintely an e46 m3 engine, here is a pic of the rear 3/4 of the car (talk about wide rubber):
