Greets people, making further steps towards the purchase of a 330 Ci, so here are a few more questions for the Experten :)

1. The M II SP has 17 inch 68M Wheels. Any thoughts on the V72M option?

2. It states that a 330Ci with SP cannot mount tire chains. Is there any 3rd party option? I usually go skiing in winter and this could be a problem.

3. Any opinions on the Laser/Alcantara interior? I was considering Montana Schwarz Leather, but I think the Laser interior suits more a Coupé.

4. The color will probably be Imolarot, but I'd like to see some pics (if you have 'em) of a 330Ci in that color. Seen M3, but not 330Ci

5. Other extras are: BiXenons, BMW Bussiness Radio with 6 CD Changer, and Multi Function Steering Wheel.

Price should be around €45.000, taxes included.

Thanks for any feedback!

Harder to clean, heavier, harsher ride, (likely) minimal if any handling benefit, much more expensive to replace wheels and (especially) tires. Unless you really like the look of the rims, I'd stay away.

Snow chains are probably a no-no due to clearance issues. How about a set of studded snow tires?

Personally I really dig the M68's, but I gotta say those 18" V72Ms are real nice.

Regarding the snow chains, JST is right on about clearance. Believe me, it's ok. =) Just get a set of snow tires and (if you wanna make it easy on yourself) a second set of rims (aftermarkets or whatever) to mount them on. That's what I did and winter was no problem.

Got any pictures of these odd colors? I've never even heard of them!

Which ones? Laser/Alcantara?

It's a kind of leatherette on the sides with black fabric with tiny white squares on it. I'll see if I can find a picture to show you.

As of the Imolarot, it's a darker red than the Hellrot, only available if you choose the SP, at least here in Spain.

Sounds like cars sold in Spain are configured a bit differently than here in the States.

The V72M wheels look great, but I agree with JST. Depends on road quality too. If you live in an area where the roads are poor, you are much more likely to bend these rims.

I though winter traction would an issue as well. But if you get good snow tires, I think you'll be surprised how well you'll be able to get around. Favorites here are the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22, Michelin Pilot Alpins and the the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 due to their good dry road handling. If you're going up into the mountains, I would suggest a 16" setup with 205/55/16 rubber for best traction and durability.

Regarding the 16" option, there's only 1 16" wheel made to fit over the 330's brakes and it's sold by tirerack.com -- just fyi!

Snow Chains

Remember people, there are places (Colorado comes to mind) where at times you aren't allowed on the road if you dont have AWD or chains. (There are numerous roadside shops that sell chains if you don't have them.) While I agree that a good set of snow tires will work well under normal conditions, he should check to see if chains may be a requirement at times.

Hey Daniel,

If you get the M-II package, as you know, you have the M68s. But for the 72s you must pay. If you choose to swap them , ask your dealer to deduct the cost of the 68s, so that you pay for the 72s less than the list price.

Here's the official pic of the Imolarot M-II on a E46 coupe.

Thanks for all the opinions (keep 'em coming!) :)

As for the Snow Tires, the problem is that the only place I'm bound to need them is for the last part of the trip (30 Km or so), being the rest in dry weather and highways. (I live in the mediterranean coast, and the climate is veeeery mild here) :)

[EDIT]Wow now that's a nice pic Alex! Definitely going with the M68... and Imolarot! ;) [/EDIT]

laser/alcantara

I drove a 325i in munich that had the laser/alcantara interior. I loved it-- looks sporty, high-tech and more interesting then regular leather or cloth. In addition, I loved the grippyness of the cloth and the alcantara side bolsters. I tried to special order this interior for my US euro delivery car but couldn't. I highly recommend it.

The Imolarot is only available with M-II package. Since the M-II is not offered in the USA, I'm afraid you can't.
