I found "Mrs. Orcutt's Driveway" on the way home from Death Valley on Saturday. I hadn't intended on going, but the GPS said it was 'only' 9 miles away as I cruised down the I-15. I yielded to temptation, and turned off the highway on my quest. After 30 minutes... I found it.

Just as expected, it was perfectly flat, straight as an arrow for the entire 5 miles, and desolate.

Unexpected was the condition of the road. For lack of better terminology... crappy. More than a decade has passed since it was last maintained, and it shows.

Rocks jut from the surface among a fine layer of broken-down asphalt. The rocks are sharp, and your car seems to 'float' on their points. Driving down the road kicks up a huge rooster tail of debris. It smacks the wheel wells as it is picked-up in the treadblocks. I wouldn't travel 50 mph down this, let alone 150 mph!

It was a shame. I took pics, then left.

Sob.

Hmm...looks and sounds like Rosecroft (where most of our autocrosses are).

:yikes: That sucks. If nothing else, I think your post has taken away the mystery and saved others from making the (disappointing) trip...
