Hello reader...My name is Larry, I have a 1998 BMW 323IC, E36, love my lil convertible...but lately ive noticed the lil girl doesnt want to run smooth...she idles around 700rpm or so, but every so often it seems like there a miss, no back fire or popping sound...ive had 1 coil replaced and all 6 of the spark plugs...could it be another coil? For having 192,000 miles on it she runs and drives great, fun lil car...i even lowered the front end 1.5 inches...and now for the 2nd issue...Ive seen videos on manually lowering the convertible top and Ive followed the steps, but all i can get it to do is, unscrew the levers, open top to about 4 or 5 inches, but thats as far as it goes...both motors have been disengaged and all windows down...i was told when i bought the car that the motor for the top doesnt work, but i havent put the roof down to see if it would reset...thank you in advance...Larry

First on opening the top, you have to keep turning the allen key until the front portion of the top moves up past the tension point. That's where the tension on the canvas is relaxed. It may be as much as 8-10 inches of lift of the front to hit that point. Once you get it past the tension point, you lift the rear of the top to release all the tension, then lift open the storage compartment lid and guide the top down into the storage well. Unless you've got a pretty good arm span it might take two people because you need to hold the front of the top up at the same time you lift the rear.

Get her warmed up and when you park leave the engine idling. Open the hood and remove the oil fill cap. Is it being sucked to the valve cover or can you remove it normally? Shouldn't have alot of vacuum behind it. Could be failing oil separator/pcv crankcase vent valve

I also have a 2010 BMW x3 that is having that problem...occassionally it will whistle...i shut it down wait 1 min, and it goes away for weeks to months...but on my 323ic ive done a test like that and there is suction...well, ive taken the oil dip stick out and there was suction, that was b4 i was having this problem...i already had 1 coil replaced, its not acting like its another coil...and all 6 spark plugs...hasnt thrown a check engine light so im guessing its gotta be something simple...thank you for your help...
