Which of the following best expresses what kind of car you were looking for when you decided to buy a BMW? In other words, what were your motives?

REMEMBER, THESE POLLS ARE ANONYMOUS. SO BE HONEST. IF IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BADGE, SAY SO.

I'd look at my 325 coupe as a sport luxury car, or even more realistically, as a GT car.

Do I crave something like a 911 Turbo - sure! But would I want to drive a car like that everyday? I'm not so sure...

What I really wanted was a comfortable car for everyday driving or trips, can haul a few things or people, yet still has highly competant driving dynamics for the "fun factor". And IMHO, no other car has as much class or beauty as a 3 series coupe!

What was I looking for? Woke up one morning thinking that I was going to be buying a used C-5 Corvette that day. Wound up with an order for a 325xiT. How the hell did that happen?

I would have to say my motives lie with #1....a sports car with some practicality thrown in :D

Wanted a solid feeling, reliable, good handling car with 4 doors (for practicality), decent looks, and a manual transmission. Only the Audi A4 and BMW appealed to me-- and I liked the way the BMW drove better.

I voted "sports luxury", but I actually wouldn't mind if the car had less luxury, cost less and had a different badge. The 1 series could be that car, if its not severely Banglelized in its final form.

In the end, isn't it really about the badge? Ego, id... penis envy... All those concepts rolled into steel, rubber and plastic.

Actually, it would be truly interesting to post this exact poll at the other BMW forums, especially Fanatics. I wonder if our pre-conceived prejudices would be supported by the poll responses.

Cool & hip would be a spot on description I would choose for the SG/Tanin cab.

Funny you should mention Maui Jim's. I just bought a pair of their 'Islander' brand sunglasses. They're cool & hip, too, but flat out, IMHO, the best functional and practical shades on the market for 'active' dudes like me.

Note: This has been an unpaid, unsolicited advertisement for Maui Jim's (but tell them IndyMike sent you). :D

Would they answer honestly? For that matter, are we even answering honestly? Have some of us, convinced ourselves that it's one thing when it's really another?

Dunno about anyone else, but I really wish that my car was built by someone else and had a different badge. If the subject comes up, when asked what kind of car I drive if I answer "A BMW" the next question is usually "How do you like your Beeeeeemer?" Sigh. That's one of the nice things about having a Touring though...I can just say, "Oh, I've got a station wagon."

Then again, maybe I'm just upset with myself for selling out, moving to the suburbs and buying a Beeeeeemer :p

I'm sure you're well versed in all those short comings to design for them, Honkydonk. :)

I HATE admitting to owning a BMW as well. The stigma is BAD.
