My dealer's service dept. is starting to piss me off...

This morning I took the M3 for the 1,200mile service... When I brought up my concern regarding the diff. fluid, my service advisor looked at me like: "WTF are you talking about ? You don't know $hit"... Then, he "politely" said that they haven't had one diff. blow on them yet and that I shouldn't worry about it...

I explained that I was just raising a legit concern as I know for a fact that dealers across the board are using non-LSD fluid in LSD equipped cars, which is one of the causes why so many people have had blown diffs...

Anyway, it's just his attitude... He's the same one who gave that LAME excuse for my battery dying. You guys may remember that episode... My 325i's battery was dying on me and his explanation was that ~660 miles a month is not enough to keep it charged... Yeah, right... As long as I use the car at least 5 days/week, I really don't see how additional mileage will help the battery stay charged...

If that was the case, Mike would've replaced several batteries at this point, given the extraordinary commute distance... :D

sounds a lot like the dealership i bought my car from, idiots. now I drive an hour to a different dealership to have my car serviced. At least there is a good BMW dealership that's only an hour away. my Audi friends have to drive 3-4 hours to either Houston or Dallas to service their cars.

so they wouldn't change your differential fluid for you? they realized that it's much cheaper to change your fluid then your LSD right? i hate dealerships like that...

I can definately understand your unhappiness with this bozo. It sounds like he is afraid of a knowledgeable client.

Is that last sentence an invite for this post to be taken over:dunno: If so, I'm sure Mike and a couple of his friends will be glad to help you out:D

Well, I guess they'll change the diff. fluid, but the guy kinda' refused to compare the part # for the fluid with the one I have. He just said I shouldn't worry about it... :tsk: It's a shame I was in a hurry...

You have two BMW's, one of them being one of their marquee cars so you are obviously a valuable customer. They should be kissing your butt.

If there is another service department nearby, even if you have to travel a little farther then I would take my business elsewhere. Then I would talk to the GSM of your current dealer and tell him that you are in the market for an M5 but you wouldn't buy from them no matter what the deal was (I don't think you are in the market for an M5 at the moment, at least you never mentioned it, but they don't know that! And you might be shortly?)

You are right about the battery issue...that was ridiculous...I would be on my 4th one by now and I don't think the service department that I go to would ever say something like that to me...they really treat me extremely well and I didn't even buy my car there, but unless I get some amazing deal elsewhere I will next buy from them the next time just because of the good service and treatment I have received.

Damn, I'm going to have to go back there...

On the BMWNA 02 Models Service Maintenance Checklist, they checked the "Replace differential oil" item, but I see nothing on the service invoice... F*ck!!!
Alex- for which service do they specify changing the diff oil? I assume this is for the M3?

Yup. M3 - 1,200mile service. It's a shame, but it took me 3 months and 6 days to put 1,200 miles on a car I feel like driving 1,200 miles in a week... :( Oh well, gotta work hard to pay it off first... :D

That service department sounds like quite a place. On my latest service printout, my dealer lists everything done and each of the part numbers required to do the service. If they're not doing that for you, I wouldn't trust them. They should absolutely tell you what the part number is, there is no reason for them to hide it unless they're up to something. And if they're not telling you just because they're high and mighty, it's still a valid reason to drop them like a rock. Apparently they don't need the hassle of customers.

It's kind of like going to a doctor who treats you like crap. Even if he's the best technically at what he does, it doesn't matter. It's better to go to someone who cares about your health. (Or in this case, your car's health!)

When the throttle body of all things on my car started giving off faults and putting the car into 'creep' mode my service advisor was a total ass.

'What do you want me to do about it?' was his response when the fault went off even though not twenty minutes ago did the car barely start and couldn't achieve speeds of more than 5mph.
I had to ASK them to put it on the computer and even then they dismissed it as 'a computer fault.' An hour later the same problem reoccured and only then did they even agree that a problem existed. Took several weeks to fix it.

I should also mention that they:

1) dented my rear bumper(repaired after a bit of complaining, again greated with the "What do you expect us to do about it?" attitude.)

and other things I'd rather not mention right now.
