My M3 lip spoiler is not aligned properly

2260 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  AF
Dealer installed the M3 lip spoiler on my car, but he did not align it properly. It's about 2 mm. of center.

Can I take it of and remount it without scratching the paint on my trunk? - any trick and tips for this operation.

Use a hair dryer. The lip spoiler is held on with a strip of double sided tape. Sounds cheesy, but the 3M tape used for exterior automotive applications is strong stuff. Heat it up and you should be able to get the spoiler off. Obviously, don't use anything metal or that could scratch to pry it off. You can get a roll of the tape from any auto parts store for less than $20.

Thanks, do you (or NE1 else) have experience with this procedure?

My dealer seems to be a little reluctant to use this procedure, even though he commonly follows it to to de-batch cars prior to delivery. :dunno:

I would love to hear from an M3 owner who has actually tried this on his lip spoiler.

Thanks.

It's a common procedure for removing badges as well. You may also try using some very thin fishing line to separate the spoiler from the tape, but doing that without heat will likely cause you to slice your fingers open (/me knows all too well).

Its gone... yeah!!!

I managed to remove the d... thing today. Used a heat gun (moderate setting) to soften the tape. Then cut the tape with dental floss. Had to move in steps of 4-5 cm.

Noticed a couple of fine hairline scratches on the trunk as well, but I managed to buff them out with some paint cleaner.

It took me about two hours to remove the spoiler and buff the trunk lid. I am definetly not putting the lip spoiler back on - IMO the car looks better without it.

What made you put the spoiler on in the first place ?

Also, if you do decide to have it put on again, do it yourself this time
