Got an f34 335d GT three weeks ago then last week I entered a destination in the nav and got message out of the blue saying "unable to calculate route". Did try using previous destinations that had worked before but kept getting the same error message. When I tried using the the "test spoken instruction" in the nav submenu the audio response was "Navigation is not active" Can anyone help with any suggestions that might solve this issue? Thanks

It could be lots of things, but I would start by inspecting the wires to see if small critters may have been snacking on them. You could also try pulling the codes to see if they can point you in the right direction (no pun intended). I always get frustrated when manufactures only provide you with some simple message for an error which doesn't even give you a clue to what isn't working. Hope it is a simple fix.
Over the weekend I tried putting in an address that Siri found with no problem. The Nav could not find it. When doing voice activation I too got the announcement that Nav is not active. I put in an address into Nav that I knew existed and started following the Nav which worked.......I think it says "Nav is not active" when it is not following "imputed" route.
The error message seems to indicate that the nav application was either switched off or was not installed. I don't see a way to switch it off through the idrive screen on my car. Can you confirm the car was sold originally with navigation?
