I have a retrofitted nbt evo in a 14 f30 . Recently the navigation stopped working . It has been stuck on the grey loading screen . I tried to reload current map and an update . I kept receiving the message "data on usb unusable . please insert new usb. " I used multiple different usb sticks and made sure they were formatted to fat32. All the certs are accepted . Everything else works . Carplay, bluetooth, sdars, and even accessing songs stored on hard drive . I was told its possibly a failed hdd. Just looking for some direction on diagnosing this problem. i would think that if hdd is bad other features would have failed . I'm trying to avoid removing it and sending it out . Any and all help is appreciated .

Delete current Map Data with Tool32, then try installing new Map.

I double checked and yes both were accepted

I attempted the map delete and got this result

Obviously I’m doing something incorrect. What is the next step ?

Try this:

a) Launch C:\EDIABAS\Bin\TOOL32.EXE (Run as Administrator and make Sure Windows Firewall is disabled)
b) Hit F3
c) Load C:\EDIABAS\Ecu\NBTEVO.PRG
d) In the "Select Job: F01" window, select "steuern_routine"
e) Press on "argument wizard" and from top drown down box select "SAFEMODE_HDD", and then from right side drop down "safemode aus"
f) Hit F5
g) "Results" window should show "JOB_STATUS = OKAY"
h) In the "Select Job: F01" window, select "steuergeraete_reset"
i) Hit F5. "Results" window should show "JOB_STATUS = OKAY" and NBT2 Head Unit should Reboot

Then make normal map update using EVO map on USB Drive and EVO Map FSC Code in "FSC" Folder.

that was the result of the second step. After I installed usb and now it does not even prompt for map update. Just stuck on “starting navigation system “

"SAFEMODE_HDD" argument is for "steuern_routine" not "steuergeraete_reset".

followed all steps from beginning again. Ended with this result on tool32. Still at starting navigation screen and not recognizing update. I reformatted usb to fat32 again and reloaded map update with same result.

These are the files I have on the root drive of usb.

Do exactly this:

1) "steuern_routine" with "SAFEMODE_HDD" & "safemode aus" argument
2) "steuergeraete_reset"
3) "steuern_routine" with argument NAVI_MAP;STR;0x01
4) "steuergeraete_reset"

Then try Map Update.

USB looks correct as far as map, but there is no "FSC" folder with FSC Code.

followed directions precisely. This was the only step that came back with an error. I added fsc folder with fsc codes inside to usb. It still does not recognize update just continued starting navigation system message

Ok, not sure what issue is then. I think until existing map is deleted, it's not going to take new map.

So if I understand that error message correctly. Something is preventing tool32 from deleting old map data. Is there a test I could run in tool 32 to see what ecu error is ?

Nothing I know of. Maybe HDD is just jacked up...

It’s almost certainly the HDD
