How many of you are going to the AutoX school. I know that TD, JST, me, and LIL RAJA are all going to be there!

oh..doh I thought you were asking about the drivers school this weekend. I can definitely make it to the autox on the 14th..although I'll just watch. oh just in case you read this post first...when are you leaving for summit point this weekend? Sat or Sun and what time? I gotta wash my car before I go, otherwise it'll be pretty embarrasing.. :eeps:
Hope it doesn't rain on Saturday like they're predicting! :bawling:

Hey, I'll be out there in that rain. But, I understand that doing a driver's school in the rain is significantly more educational (and less dangerous) as traction gives out at lower speeds and being "smooth" is all that more critical.

As long as it only rains through part of the weekend, I'll be happy. I do want some dry track time, just to experience it.

My car will not be clean, especially since I have a "raspberry" on the rear bumper from Monday AM. I may hose it off at a coin-op place, but as it WILL be getting dirty at the track, it's not going to get a careful wash. I do plan to meticulously clean and Rain X the windshield and other glass (and do the RainX anti fog on the inside glass).

Obviously, I don't know your schedule, Teej, but I'll be there all day (7am-5pm, roughly) both days.

Yep, looks like rain, but that will be fine with me. BTW, no one washes their car for AutoX or driving school.

No no, I didn't mean washing my car for the school or the AutoX. Just to go watch... I just hate driving around in a filthy car... esp when I'm going to be in the company of so many other nice Bimmers. :p

Hey CD!!

Do you still have the 255's on the back of your car.

If so can you post a pic. Want to see how they look on the Type 68's? Do they ever rub?

Thanks in advance. :D

TD,

Enjoy the rain!! You'll love it. As long as it doesn't pour too heavily and you get a few let-ups, the track should dry suffiently in spots to give you more grip.

I just ran at LRP in the rain last Tuesday. I love it; slow speed corners in the wet give you lots of time to experience different lines and safe car-control. Your instructor will probably give you two lines, a rain line and a dry line.

The only thing I found a bit dicey in the wet was pulling up on slower cars and conversely, having faster cars pull up on me.

Yep I still have them S-03 255/40-YR17. I do not have a picture, but they look about the same as the OEM 245s. I am not aware of them ever rubbing.

I run about 4psi higher in the front tires (ContiSports 225/45-ZR17 with over 20K miles!) and understeer is not a problem. I find it oversteers on about 1/3 of the corners, neutral on 1/3, and understeers on about 1/3.

Where we autox, the surface is very poor and even with the 255s I often wish I had more traction to help with acceleration.

Wow, thanks. Found a GREAT deal on new pilots. Wanted to get the 255's out back. Think this tire will cause a problem?

If you do get a pic, please post.

Thanks again.

My guess is that they will be fine. Look-up the specs of the Pilots at tirerack.com (or call and ask) and compare with the S-03 specs. If the Pilot is not a lot wider, then you will prollly be OK.:dunno:
