Wasn’t neglect - my son only had the car for six months. Just 50k on it, fully serviced bmw. Bought it form a 2nd dealer.

Injector leak could have caused it, diluting oil. Here’s what that looks like:

On this one, the fuel dilution also washed away oil spray from the piston cooling nozzle.
