Alright so on my birthday, i was exiting school and tryed to start the car and all i got was the wonderful check engine light, so time went on and i scanned it and found a p0101 error code on the scan tool(Autoxray scan tool). So i looked over the hoses just to make sure none were cracked, and unplugged and re plugged back in but it still wouldnt start. So i kept looking and decided to replace the mass air flow sensor because that seemed like a plausible failure for a 110k mile car. Still nothing happened. So right now i am thoroughly flustered and truly baffled as what to do next. So i was hoping someone might have a clue. So anyone have an idea?

-Thanks for whatever advice you can give

P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem

I'm surprised that changing the MAF did not fix the problem. Is it possible for you to unplug the MAF and see if the car starts? If it does maybe the new MAF is bad as well. Is it an OEM MAF sensor?

wow that would be really wierd, um i will try that but i doubt it and yes the replacement is still oem. I was looking in the service manual about the fuses inside the ecm, could i have blown a fuse? because when i first had the issue i started the car up and then was waiting for a friend so i turned it off and then tried turning it on again and thats when i wouldnt start.

when i started it up it was still cold, and at that time no there werent any other codes. When i re scanned it still the only code that came up was the p0101 code- i also just checked the fuses and nothing happened and she still wouldnt start. What else causes a p0101 error to pop up? also all of the hoses for the intake look fine no cracks or anything.

Alright so impatience and the necessity of a car took the best of me so i ended up taking it to the dealership and got it fixed, i found out that it was a faulty Air Idle Control Valve that had gone bad on me, that along with the replacement hose w/ labor ran me 800. Although im unhappy that it cost that much, hope this can help someone else who might have this problem. More specificly the reason that it came up with the P0101 code was because the failure of the control valve caused a faulse negative thus setting off the error. So hope this helps someone and thanks for your guys help!

I want to thank Smoke0101 for posting the fix to the error code P0101. I recently have been puzzled with why my wife's 2000 323i would not start! I rented the diagnostic tool from Autozone and it read error code P1397 which I found was the camshaft sensor at the exhaust and error code P0101 MAF sensor. I replaced the camshaft sensor and cleaned the MAF. Car still did not start!!! After reading your post I decided to remove the ICV and clean it thoroughly. I put it all back together and the car started!!!!! The engine light is still on but I will take it to Autozone tomorrow to see what codes show up now. Thanks again!
