Just a few weeks ago, I turned in my wife's 330i, end of three year lease, with only 21,000 miles. Tires were excellent, and body was perfect except for a tiny ding mark. We told the sales manager we would not be leasing another BMW at that time (Honda Fit instead; it's the economy stupid!). He made a few negative comments about the ding mark, which I thought were in jest. Not so. When we got the settlement check from BMW Financial Services, $100 had been taken out for 'excess wear and tear.' I did call BMWFS on the phone, and discussed it with them, using my politest tone. To my great surprise, with minimal arguing on my part, they did agree to give back the $100, perhaps, in part because I still have a leased 335i. Anyway, it was worth the arguing.
I will say that this episode does not bode well for another BMW lease in February of 2011, when my 335i goes back, although chances are better than they would have been if BMWFS had given me nothing.

Glad to see they refunded your money. The ding is visible enough, $100 is probably the least amount they couldve charged you
for it. Glad I don't lease, every little nick and scratch would just give me that much more heartburn.
