Okay, we saw some *okay* pics of the next 5er recently. These pics seem much more likely to be the actual car and also look much worse. IMO, that is 8/10th as ugly as the E65 and totally fits the "sausage cut to different lengths" description Bangle said he's seeking to avoid. Ugh!

Some side notes.

Apart from the doors and roof most of the body parts are aluminium. (lightweight will have priority)

Engines : 2.2 , 2.5, 3.0 Liter I6 and 3.5 and 4.5 V8 (Valvetronic) / end of 2004 V10 on the M5

forgot to add, all manual transmission are 6-Speed

I agree--I was going to write the same thing. These are definitely a step backwards. This car has the same problem that the 7 has, and it's not even the trunklid or the headlights. The thing that bothers me the most is, looking at the full side view, the thing just looks so darned CHUNKY! It just LOOKS enormous, even if the panels are lightweight.

And, worse IMO, is that it lacks an identifiable look. It's just a bland, fat-looking "executive-class" sedan. Nothing special. Just damn bland.

The pictures are computer generated by some guys at the magazine who published the photos. So it's not the final product, it's only based on some descriptions which are gathered from various sources.

I did hear the introduction of the real car was delayed to allow for some de-Banglification. Apparently the board is seeing the "non-spun" sales numbers for the E65.

The board is very serious for the final decision this time, according to the insider sources. Apparently, they don't want to see further discussions, petitions like the E65.

We haven't seen so much discussion about a car like the E65 in the last decade. So, I'm guessing Helmut Panke will avoid it.

NO NO, it can't be this ugly! The front is bad, esp the air dam. but the back is worse..looks more like a, like a, oh I don't know...haven't seen anything this ugly before. The trunk looks even more pronounced than in the 7 even though we read it will be less so. So I'm just gonna shutup now and wait till I see some real pics...or better enhanced ones, with my fingers crossed.

Of all the enhanced spyshots so far, this one is the worst. It makes the E65 start to look good. What's with the uplifted corner of the headlight/signal, and the J-Lo-ized BangleButt?

I hope the stories of de-Banglification that are floating around is true, and that this crap is undone for production.

Hold the phone--- ALL manuals are 6-speeds, including the small 6's?? Is this going to extend to 3-series also??
the only manual transmission which was mentioned in the text was 6-Speed, so I'm guessing they'll all be 6-Speed.

OK, I found this picture and it's obvious that the first pic above (front shot) has nothing to do with the new 5 :D

Click me

Oh, and the lady in the passenger seat has vanished too, probably left her hubby because of his taste :D :bigpimp:

Hmm. I hate the headlights and actually the whole front end of the car. However, I really do like the roof line, the wheel arches and the side profile. It looks quite mean with those HUGE wheels.

I think I like it. No, I am not on drugs.

Please don't be insulted but what is with the turn signals above the headlights..?

Sort of looks like eyebrows?

That truly is the design element that needs to be removed from an otherwise mean front end design.

I would imagine..that was the theme..that bonded all new bmw's together..

I guess its hard to tear apart the marketing teams idea that came up with this..

the sevens problems are more vast in that its rear view is also at issue..

I believe the Five can correct these before coming to market..

Its great to be adventureous (sp) but at some point..BMW will need to reconcile with the fact..the proportions and/or design need to be slightly reworked..

for a more harmonous design..

The five is real close to being cutting edge successful..

I just think the eyebrows and the weird trunklid need to be reworked..

Hopefully before release..
