I'm new to this forum. Just bought my first BMW. It's a 2000 BMW 528i with a 105,000 miles.
The guy who sold it to me has changed: cam sensor, radiator, new brakes all the way around, water pump and belts. I don't know what else I should be concerned about maintenance wise.

Also, was wondering if anyone knew what could help to get a little more power. Will intake, exhaust, chip or what would help? Do any 5 series parts fit on the 528. Was thinking about putting a 540 or m5 bumper and tail light. and any wheels suggestions?

Hi

and welcome! there are a host of very useful strings contained in this forum and you'll find that after taking the time to research and read ...a great many of your questions can be answered.

As one of the frequent posters to this site councils we "newbies", we should search, read and then ask (or words to that effect). I have found that to be sound advice and try to put it in practice.

Before you attempt to improve the power, you need to restore the original power and torque. That said, these are your priorities:

1. Replace anything within the cooling system that hasn't already been replaced, especially the expansion tank. This will restore the reliability of the engine. Do this first as a cooling failure can kill your engine.

2. Replace your Vanos seals. This will restore the timing of the engine. You will be amazed at the improvement in torque. Search Beisan + Vanos for more info. About $100 in parts but 4-6 hrs of DIY labor.

3. Replace your pre-cat O2 sensors. This can improve your gas mileage and the smoothness of your engine. $100 and a 30 min DIY.

4. Consider refreshing your front suspension system. Struts, contraol & thrust arms, tie rods and sway bar links. About $1200 in parts + labor but will transform your ride and handling to like near-new.

5. Save at least $1K for the unexpected (CCV, DISA, SAP, FSU, etc.) issues. After that, then waste your money on bling.

Remember to use only OEM parts unless alternatives are advised. Good luck!

if you want different wheels just make sure you buy the correct fitment for an e39, bore size 74.1.

chriskansas: If your location is Kansas, or anywhere where you get measurable snowfall accumulation, you might consider waiting till next spring for new wheels and tires. Put a set of four snow tires on your existing basketweave wheels for the winter.
