Today BMW announced another round of air bag recalls covering the F15 X5, F25 X3 and F26 X4. BMW stresses this is a voluntary safety recall and affects a relatively small 3,606 vehicles in total. The recalled airbags are faulty as the result of a supplier (Takata?) production error. The inflators, the part of the airbag that produces the gas to inflate the fabric part of the bag, have been incorrectly welded. The issues does not relate to inflator propellant recall that has caused so many issues for BMW and owners already.
BMW doesn't say what or when a remedy will be available but the recall will show up in BMW DSCnet (dealer communication system). I will update the story as more information becomes available.
