my name is Rick and i am new to owning a BMW I have an 08 X5 4.8i and I love it, the first poor milage car i have ever had and I do not care about milage any more because i realy like this car. I have had it about a month now and my first problem has surfaced. I am not opposed to tearing into any automotive project, so recently I have experienced coolant loss after 3500 miles of owning it and have read about cooling systems problems and hope to find lots of knowledge and experience at this forum as I work through theese issues.

Welcome HEP Rick. (HEP as in High Energy Physics?) The knowledge is at www.NewTIS.info. Free and authoritative. Enter with your VIN-7 and browse / search. There is a lot to be learned with a steep learning curve.

At the X5 E70 forum there is a Knowledge Base sticky link to a G00gle Drive file of about two dozen BMW technical description documents. Read them, you'll need them, your X5 is not anything like what you have previously mechaniced on before. It's a box of computers pretending to be an Ultimate Driving Machine.

Luca Paindelli***8217;s fantastic collection
I've shared these in the past, but can't find the thread to bump it, so here's another one. May help the new comers:

E70 Training Material: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1epIteFE7i-TVQ1c1dLQ3hYVFE&usp=drive_web
-> the most fascinating doc is the 13 pages paper on the glovebox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A glovebox guys.....

My collection of mostly diesel specific recalls: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1epIteFE7i-UjJMLVNCQVdkYzQ&usp=drive_web
-> I never scanned the most recent one about the heater element
-> here's the most recent bulletin SI B 11 06 13 regarding the addition of a bracket under the EGR valve to prevent cracking of the flex joint on the EGR cooler

My collection of training material I've assembled over my years of ownership: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1epIteFE7i-SG9xSTVEdVFPQlU&usp=drive_web
-> Makes it a good read for those coast to coast flights...

Enjoy!!!! Even if you may not be interested in tinkering with the car, I'm one of those convinced that knowledge is power, so it may help you understand if you're been bull****ted by a dishonest mechanic or not...
