Having read some threads regarding metallic content found in new engines, I booked an appointment to have the E90's oil and filter changed next week. I am not wasting my money, right?

good move.......i did my own oil change at 5k, 10k, 15k, and the dealer did my 20k......

OK. I managed to punch myself in the nose while swapping the shift knob. Changing my own oil is not a good idea.

There is an oil analysis on e90post.com from an owner who changed his at 1500 miles. It should not be hard to find using their search function.

It will probably make you feel much better about spending this money.

I changed mine early, and am glad that I did. But then I own the car.

My e90 is having 12100 Miles without an oil change and getting 25.5 MPG on trip computer.

BMWFS owns my 330i. It will be returned to their possession after my 36 mos are up. I am not paying for an out-of-cycle oil change. If they think 15K is on acceptable interval to go on the original oil, it's their problem, not mine.

The exact reason why I don't buy used cars. I buy, not lease.

The car is telling me oil change at 19,000 miles, so I did it at 10,000 out of my pocket.
