I use a BMW X5 2001 4.4i, my techincian said that I need to change the oil again after 1200miles.

His explanation was that the newly fitted parts and values needs time to adjust inside the engine and it has to do about approx 1200miles because the oil will have metal residues from the fixed parts.

My vehicle had white smoke from its left tailpipe and the reason for this was damaged piston rings.
So I fixed it and everything seems good but this oil change. Oil changes in my country are very expensive specially for a x5. It's over 150 dollars per change

I want to know if this is really necessary or running at least another 2000-4000 miles will this be ok for the engine ?
