Should I change the fluids? :p
(I'm going to change the clutch/brake fluid.)
I'm particularly interested in the benefits of changing the transmission fluid.

Basically, I want my car running as well as is physically possible, since I'm going to be sitting in it for a few 10+ hour stretches.

IMHO, I'd say "yes", beings that you are also changing the clutch/brake fluid.

I don't think it is terribly difficult to change the xmsn fluid. I've changed it twice in a Ranger I once owned. It's a bit messy, if you don't have the right tools.

If you are going to travel that far and that long, it would give you greater peace of mind if you did. There is no better feeling than taking a long road trip knowing that your machine is in top shape, I think.

How many miles do you have on your car?

Transmission fluid change? Even if you don't buy BMW's lifetime fluid claims, there is no way that the synthetic tranny fluid will last less than 45K miles. If you are changing that, change the differential fluid too. Might want to consider Redline MT fluid then.

Brake fluid change? are you planning on boiling your brake fluid? :dunno:
