ok I need help. Well I need a lot of help, but for my 1997 528i most of all. I have a valve cover leak and torn it down to find a gasket that is probably and original. I managed to get the outter ring out really easy, but the inner ring for the spark plug holes are a different question. Any suggestions on how to get the inner spark plug gaskets out? I have tried about everthing I have to pull them out but they just won't budge.

Did you ever figure it out?

It's time for me to do this as well.
Was the valve cover easy to remove?

Did you figure out how to get the gasket around the spark plugs out?

Thanks.

I haven't specifically done a BMW valve cover gasket but it you're looking for a way to grab the gasket because it sits in a groove, try using a bent needle or even better, a fishing hook. Since you're replacing the gasket, it doesn't matter if you're sticking things into the old one.
