Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my E38 740i from 1995. The ABS warning light is on. No other warning lights are on. Also not the DSC light. A garage with all the right equipment concluded there are no error codes whatsoever. So there is no problem with a wheel sensor or anything else. Also the ABS pump has been removed and completely checked over by a specialist that has the right equipment for testing these units. He could not find any faults or malfunctions. So we've put it back in the car. Bleeded the entire system, checked any error codes. None. The ABS on the car works perfectly. Just tested it myself on a wet slippery concrete floor in a parking garage. The ABS works fine. The DSC also works fine. Does anyone have any ideas what could possibly be wrong? Is it a glitch in the dashboard? A glitch in the ECU? Other units that can contribute to this behaviour?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, not sure if it'll help but with my 323i 2000 (E46), I had that keep coming on randomly. I had a trusted shop rebuild one of my tires (didn't even charge me, since I'm a frequent customer!) because the tire nozzle would stay open after filling until I poked at the stem with my finger.

Are all tires able to be filled to their recommended limit? Does this light come on immediately, or only after driving a bit? You don't have any tire 'plugs' or other semi-temporary fixes right?

The light is always on. From starting the engine till you shut it off. It never flickers or anything. It is always on. And it has nothing to do with the tire pressure. My car is from 1995 and it does not have a tire pressure monitoring system.

Back in 1995...the ABS light could also illuminate when the brake fluid was low or compromised...especially if the ABS brake system appear to be functioning normally and work in slippery/slick/wet conditions.

Just to make sure we're on the same page...you are saying a warning light on your dash that says ABS is illuminated...and this is not the traction control light in the middle of the instrument cluster that has the triangle on it, right?

Have you checked the brake fluid reservoir to see if you're low? When was the last time the brake fluid was changed? BMW recommends changing the brake fluid every 2-3 years do to it being hygroscopic:

The brake fluid was changed yesterday and the system was bled. It is the light on the right side of the instrument cluster. It is NOT the traction control light in the middle. Could it be a fault in the level sensor of the brake flyid resevoir? Or should it give a fault code when it is not functioning? Because there are no fault codes on the system.

Guys... Turns out.... Some previous owner (or dickhead) installed a non compatible speedo unit in my car! I ordered a second hand one from Germany with the right serialnumber.. Plugged it in... And the light goes off after starting the engine!
