I am new to the BMW world. Being curious I've noticed there are many performance upgrades available, some of them in "chip" format.

I assume these chips void the BMW warranty, correct? Are there other downsides?

How are these chips installed?

Thanks to all.

Be advised of something that I discovered upon digging a bit deeper into the Racechips. They do not actually remap the engine controls to provide more power, but rather only remap the throttle response, which means that they only make you think that you have more power by providing faster throttle tip in,and which would make the car much jumpier for city driving unless you dialed it back any time you were in heavy traffic.

A lot of those tuning chips also make the car finicky about gas, requiring 93 AKI or even higher to deliver the advertised performance. The best bang-for-buck performance upgrades are tires and track time.
