Apologies if this has been answered before,

I'm experiencing black heavy corrosion / pitting on my aluminium running boards which is impossible to clean, I've checked BMW parts register and they supply the actual Aluminium item as a separate part, but they're £150 per side, It looks possible that the metal will separate from the plastic beneath?? I've checked and unlike the E70 version it doesn’t seem possible that the black ridges/ pins are removable, as anyone had the same problem. or has anyone tried to remove this item for refurbishment.

@Swana......I can not answer your question, as we do not have the running boards on our car.

With that said, can you give the 'forum' a little more info about your situation?
1. How old are they/mileage?
2. Is the car garaged or left out side?
3. Are they exposed to road salt or any other elements?

Aluminum, ever when coated, if exposed to road salt will eventually 'corrode' if not cleaned, causing 'pitting'. This would be exemplified if the coating is damaged, worn or scratched. I have seen this occur on aluminum wheels.

@Swana......FYI, I looked at reaoem, com & they show P/N's for the aluminum trim pcs.
They are a little pricey at $171 to $230 each depending on where you buy.

Or you can try the Ebay aftermarket ones. Whole lot cheaper but not OEM
