Hello All,

I just joined the group, and in general, am new to the Bimmer world. I bought a used 04 525i last November.

I was recently in an accident (8/17); the other car hit me straight on the front left fender. The bodywork was completed and paid for by insurance. However, I'm also having this mechanical issue that my insurance guy says doesn't sound accident related. If that's true then I need to figure out the cheapest way to fix it.

A day after the accident it hesitated to start (but did) and the mechanics had cleared it as safe to drive. On our way back home it cut out three times, but we were able to get it started again and got home. It hasn't cut out since then but if I'm parked with the engine on it will flutter like its about to cut out. The insurance guy says it sounds like a spark plug issue, however, I don't know if I can trust his opinion.

There was also some weird sound coming from the engine compartment the same day we picked it up after the accident; the mechanic said it sounded like my AC Compressor and it was because of the humidity. It's never done that before, and it's just as humid during the summer in VA as it is in SC, so I couldn't really trust him either.

Basically, I need your help to figure out what it might be, and the cheapest way to get it fixed. I'm getting fed a bunch of information that doesn't add up with me, however, this is my first Bimmer; I could be the one who is totally off base.

If you need more information let me know and I will do my best to explain it to you. I would really appreciate any help!! Thanks! :)

The cheapest I know is the Creator C310. I have the C110 and the C310 is the upgrade version. I think some parts shop such Autozone and others, they can loan you one to scan your car. I know, their staff will help you to do it.

Who was the mechanic that OK'd the car and said it wasn't related? I think you need to have a BMW specialist evaluating the car to be sure that you aren't getting blown off. Of course the insurers don't want to pay. I can send you to two places in Richmond, and they will go to bat for you. I will send you a message and give you my name.

Otherwise, using the Carly device is your best bet.

Thanks, that would be awesome! I tried to OBD scan it at Autozone, no codes came up. Then some manager of AutoZone said the problem is that it's in service mode, which doesn't make any sense to me, and I don't think he would know much about a BMW. I then talked to my biological brother who I forgot owned a bimmer. He said it sounded like a spark plug issue. I'm going to check into that. However, a reference would be awesome! I've gone to "The Shop" once before, but I don't have a regular place I go to.

Thank you SO much for your help!
