I just joined the group, and in general, am new to the Bimmer world. I bought a used 04 525i last November.
I was recently in an accident (8/17); the other car hit me straight on the front left fender. The bodywork was completed and paid for by insurance. However, I'm also having this mechanical issue that my insurance guy says doesn't sound accident related. If that's true then I need to figure out the cheapest way to fix it.
A day after the accident it hesitated to start (but did) and the mechanics had cleared it as safe to drive. On our way back home it cut out three times, but we were able to get it started again and got home. It hasn't cut out since then but if I'm parked with the engine on it will flutter like its about to cut out. The insurance guy says it sounds like a spark plug issue, however, I don't know if I can trust his opinion.
There was also some weird sound coming from the engine compartment the same day we picked it up after the accident; the mechanic said it sounded like my AC Compressor and it was because of the humidity. It's never done that before, and it's just as humid during the summer in VA as it is in SC, so I couldn't really trust him either.
Basically, I need your help to figure out what it might be, and the cheapest way to get it fixed. I'm getting fed a bunch of information that doesn't add up with me, however, this is my first Bimmer; I could be the one who is totally off base.
