Do you think the colored stitching on the M3 steering wheel on a non M car is out of place?

Just trying to make a very difficult decision and I dont want to look like a wannabe.

i think the colored stitching looks great, but best left on M cars. many here got the colored ones when the m3 wheel first came available, but now i think most opt for black. i did.
Go with black! Although, now that I have my M3 wheel, I would sort of like that suede wheel instead! Not sure about the feel though.

The M sports package for the regular E46 includes the M3 steering wheel w/ black stitching, so that would be the "appropriate" wheel to get. Tri-color stitching looks great but we don't wanna be a wanna-be, right? ;)
A friend of my dad used to have an E34 M5. It was the first BMW I was ever in and it absolutely blew me away. I can truly say from that day on, I was a BMW nut. One of the many little details I noticed in that car was the colored stitching on the steering wheel. The fact that a manufactuer would put so much thought into a trivial little detail just to further enhance the experience of being in their car speaks volumes. I purchased my first BMW in 1999, a 2000 323i. It goes back next week when I pick up my 2002 330i. My M3 steering wheel with colored stitching is already there waiting for it.
nothing is more sporty than black on black on black on black on black on.....
I agree... that's why my 330i is black sapphire with black leatherette and aluminum trim. I think the colored stitching though will be a nice little touch of color in there.
Colored stitching is proven to add at least 25 hp. :D
Colored stitching is walking the line of being a wannabe, keep it for the M cars. Go for the black, which I did.

I don't care what color stitching is.

They why post?

Just wanted to let the thread starter know that I did not vote.

Since the poll did not have an option for "Don't care", I posted to say I don't care. Colored or not, it is just stitching, not an interest of mine.

Doesn't installing an M3 wheel already send a much stronger "wannabe" message than the color of the stiching?
Why even let such a small thing detract you? Do you take out the little ///M logo on the wheel? Once you decided to install the wheel, chose whatever color you like and be done with it.

Maybe I should of put IMHO?

If the M3 wheel was exact same as the sport wheel with the only difference being the M logo. Then yes both are wannabes, color stitching or not. But the M wheel is quite a bit different, alot thicker with thumb spots. I would of bought it either way if it had the logo or not.

The non 5 series comes with the M wheel with the sport package and it also has the logo. If the factory does it is ok with me.

i don't get why people say the colored stitching is 'wannabe'. that's retarded. people who put clear lenses on their non-SP coupes don't do it because they 'wanna' have the SP. they do it because they like clear lenses - just like some people like the colored stitching.

and actually come to think of it, i don't know many people who don't 'wanna' have an ///M3. all of us who don't have one 'wanna' have one. the thing is we want them because they have a phenominal engine, 4 big exhaust pipes, sound great, look great, etc. not because they have colored stitching on the steering wheel.

anyway... just seems that saying colored stitching is 'wannabe' is a poor statement.
Only reason I used wannabe is because the original poster, JimmyNY, used it:angel:
The stitching on mine is black. I like both though...

I agree.
investigated both...
fingers have no eyes. color mattered not to them.
went with black since it was 30 bucks cheaper at the time.
and the black stitching went better with my black interior IMHO.
wannabe? nah, who is going to see the wheel except you and passengers?
